When thinking of this devotional, I had the “strong” people in mind. Those that are always there for someone else. Those that everyone looks to for strength. Those who are the rock in their relationship(s). I’ve found that every now and then, as much as I love the Word of God, and as much as I love helping others, sometimes things get overwhelming and I do not even recognize it until I find myself heading into the “terrain” so to speak. I doubt that I’m alone. It seems to be something that happens with us “strong” folk.

But, I thank God that he knows everything about me, even when I’m fulfilling my role in relationships and lose track of what’s going on with me. Psalm 139:1-5 says it best:

You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.

God never let’s me get too far down the road before nudging me by His Spirit that I need to tend to me. I need someone to minister to me. I need someone to be there for me. Sometimes, I am almost ashamed to say, I only hear Him when I look up and notice I’m heading towards a spiritual or emotional crash. It is at those times that I hear the Lord saying, “terrain, terrain, pull up – PULL UP!” And then I say to him, Lord my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the rock that’s higher than I! And He does.
